If you want the flexibility to stop along the way and take in the scenery, renting a car is a great option. From Bardufoss Airport, you can easily drive via Finnsnes and continue on to western Senja. The drive to Camp Steinfjord takes around 2.5–3 hours, depending on your route and the weather. The road offers beautiful views and plenty of opportunities for photo stops.

Getting from Tromsø to Camp Steinfjord on magical Senja is easier than you might think – whether you prefer to sit back and let someone else do the driving or take the wheel yourself. Here are three convenient options:
Senja Direct – comfortable winter bus from Tromsø
During the winter season (December 15 – March 31), Senja Direct offers a direct bus from Tromsø to Senja. The bus departs from Tromsø Airport and makes a stop at the Prostneset bus terminal before continuing toward Finnsnes. From there, connecting buses run to various destinations on Senja, including stops near Camp Steinfjord.
This is a great option if you want to travel comfortably and eco-friendly – without the need to rent a car.

If you want complete freedom to stop along the way and discover Senja’s hidden gems, renting a car is a great choice. Drive from Tromsø via the Gisund Bridge to Senja – or take the Brensholmen–Botnhamn ferry if it’s running. The journey to Camp Steinfjord takes around 3.5–4 hours depending on the route you choose. The roads are well-maintained, but keep in mind that conditions may vary during winter.
